WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, UNITED STATES, October 23, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Community Oncology Alliance (COA) is hosting more than 200 providers, payers, employers, policymakers, and industry leaders this week at the seventh Payer Exchange Summit on Oncology Payment Reform to discuss how they can work together to advance new payment and delivery models for cancer care. This marks COA’s third payment reform convening within the last year, and represents community oncology’s continued leadership in developing innovative solutions for America’s cancer care system.

The COA Payer Exchange Summit is being held October 23-24, 2017, and features an invited group of community oncology providers, payers, and partners that are actively involved in payment reform efforts. Attendees include a diverse mix of community oncology physicians, practice administrators, and pharmacists; private and federal insurers; policymakers from government agencies; local and national employers; employer coalitions; and industry stakeholders.

During the Payer Exchange Summit, COA is also announcing the formation of a new Committee on Oncology Payment Reform. The 18-member committee consists of physician leaders and practice administrator teams from eight practices across the country with deep experience in payment reform efforts. It is helping move oncology payment reform projects from general concepts to reality and success.

“As leaders in the development and implementation of oncology payment models, community oncology practices are ideally situated to convene reform discussions and help others advance their efforts,” said Bruce J. Gould, MD, former president of COA, chair of the payment reform committee, and practicing community oncologist with the Northwest Georgia Oncology Centers in Marietta, Ga. “Now is the time for providers, payers, employers, policymakers, and others to use what they have learned and find solutions that preserve the nation’s community cancer care system for generations to come.”

Attendees of the Payer Exchange Summit are hearing in-depth reports on payment reform pilot projects and exchange ideas on what has worked, what has not, and what needs to be done to improve quality while reducing costs. A central focus is on progress-to-date and early learnings in the Oncology Care Model (OCM). The Summit is continuing in-depth discussions of COA’s proposed ‘OCM 2.0’ model, which addresses several issues identified by current participants, as well as very specific, detailed plans for the OCM and how value-based payments might be incorporated for services and drugs.

The Payer Exchange Summit continues COA‘s commitment to fostering dialogue and action around reforming the way we pay for community cancer care. The next Payer Exchange Summit will be at the annual Community Oncology Conference which will take place April 12-13, 2018 outside of Washington, DC. Learn more at www.COAConference.org.
