Wasilla Pantry Honors Founder

A special re-dedication ceremony will be held this Thursday, June 26, at 2 p.m. in Wasilla to honor the legacy of Betty White, founder of the MatSu Food Pantry. The MatSu Food Bank is hosting a ribbon cutting at its East Blue Lupine Drive location, officially renaming the facility the Betty White Food Pantry. White established the pantry in 1984 and played a key role in making it a vital part of the community.


Nome Bridge Work Begins

Plans are underway to replace the aging Snake River Bridge in Nome. According to the Alaska Department of Transportation, the bridge has "reached its life capacity" and will be closed from July 21 to July 27. During that time, a temporary bridge will be installed to maintain access until a full replacement project begins.


Braille Signs Debut at Bird Point

Twenty new interpretive signs were recently unveiled at Bird Point, enhancing one of Turnagain Arm’s most iconic stops. Alaska State Parks says the additions bring fresh access and creativity to the area — and notably, they include the first braille signs ever featured in Alaska State Parks.


Midnight Sun Game Shines in Fairbanks

A summer solstice tradition in Fairbanks drew a big crowd to Growden Memorial Field as the Alaska Goldpanners hosted the 120th Midnight Sun Game on Friday. Though it looked like midday, the game began at 10 p.m., celebrating the near-endless daylight of the solstice. The Anchorage Glacier Pilots claimed victory with a final score of 7 to 2.
